Our approach
In 2017, we observed 200+ self-driving car startups and an equal number of industrial robotics startups, but the home autonomy and robotics space had been dramatically overlooked. While AI is becoming more ubiquitous, families are still stuck spending dozens of hours per week on repetitive household chores.At Matic, we're leveraging advanced technology to address this problem. We've started by reimagining our first product in fully autonomous floor-cleaning robots. Just like consumers adopted Cell Phones, then PDAs, then iPods and Blackberries before adopting the iPhone to replace all, we believe that consumers will adopt single-purpose, elegant, and affordable robots that belong and become part of their homes first before we get one-robot-to-rule all chores.Our goal is to continue automating other forms of household labor, shipping useful, affordable, and privacy-first robots to our users that solve real problems while building iteratively toward more complex tasks and capabilities over time.Privacy firstOur robots are also private by design, with all the computes on the edge device. We build fully autonomous, useful, elegant, and affordable Wall-E-esque robotic products that kids, pets, and families love!About the roleAs a Quality Engineer at Matic, you'll be instrumental in ensuring that our autonomous home robots meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Based in Mountain View, California, you'll work closely with our production, engineering, and product teams to design and implement quality control processes that uphold Matic's commitment to delivering elegant and dependable robotic solutions. This full-time role offers the chance to shape the quality framework of a fast-growing startup, directly impacting the experience of families who rely on our products.Matic's hardware team is meticulous, collaborative, and driven by a passion for robotics excellence. • Develop, implement, and perform quality assurance processes to evaluate the performance, durability, and safety of Matic's robotic products.
• Conduct root cause analysis on defects or failures, collaborating with engineering teams to design effective solutions and prevent recurrence.
• Design and execute testing protocols, including functional, stress, and environmental tests, to validate product reliability.
• Monitor production processes to identify quality risks, recommending improvements to enhance consistency and efficiency.
• Establish and maintain quality metrics, tracking performance data to drive continuous improvement across manufacturing and design.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, adapting processes to meet evolving requirements.
• Work cross-functionally to integrate quality checkpoints into hardware and software development lifecycles.
• Document quality procedures, creating clear guidelines and training materials for production teams to follow.What we look for:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred 2+ years of experience in hardware engineering, ideally in consumer electronics, robotics, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of quality control methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, SPC) and testing techniques.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in root cause analysis, failure mode analysis (FMEA), and data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficiency with tools like statistical software, CAD, or quality management systems; familiarity with robotics hardware or software is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, balancing technical expertise with clear communication.
  • Proactive problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and a passion for delivering flawless products.
