Whether our customers are accelerating life sciences research, solving complex analytical challenges, improving patient diagnostics and therapies or increasing productivity in their laboratories, we are here to support them.This position is primarily responsible for administering the company's Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Programs at the Petaluma site.Essential FunctionsManage the day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of EHS programs, procedures and policies at a site. Main programs include ergonomics, machine safety, lockout/tagout, PPE, Job Hazard Assessments, Hazard Communication, contractor safety, hazardous waste management. Complete EHS metrics, lead accident and hazard investigations and recommend corrective action. Conduct and prepare the format for periodic EHS inspections and / or site audits. This position is also responsible for assisting with the top sustainability initiatives for the site.Develops, maintains, and enforces safety policies and procedures in accordance with all local, state, federal regulations and company EHS program requirementsEnsures compliance with EHS regulations and codes and acts as liaison to regulatory agency personnelManages the employee safety training program, including developing and delivering training curricula and driving/tracking employee participationProvide technical knowledge in the development of EHS controls, programs, and general workplace hazard control strategies.Conduct EHS reviews for new product development, facility modification, product manufacturing modifications and new equipment/machinery installations.Specifies the procurement and maintenance of safety equipment inventory to ensure that onsite personnel have adequate protection from workplace hazards.Reviews the procurement of chemicals and materials purchased, including the maintenance of the library of SDS'sOversees emergency response activities and manages site's emergency response teamResponsible for promoting a strong safety culture through outreach initiatives as well as employee and management engagementComplete job safety, ergonomic and PPE analysis.Manages contractor safety programManages site workers compensation program and lead incident investigationsManage incidents, hazard id's, near misses, safety inspections, and safety audits using the site's safety, health and environmental database (SHED).Manages the site's ergonomics programConducts site audits for compliance with company global standardsManages and maintains day-to-day EHS programs at the site, including new employee orientation, EHS management systems, and regulatory record keeping and reportingAdministers company compliance with regulatory permits. Prepares applications, interpreted regulations and maintains written EHS programs as necessary.Collects safety metrics and conducts trend analysisProvides oversight to safety committee.Facilitate and grow the site behavior-based safety program.May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.Nature and ScopeWorks on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Erroneous decisions may have a considerable impact on the overall success of the facility operations. Normally determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other personnel.Education RequirementsRequires a bachelor's degree in safety engineering, environmental or industrial hygiene or comparable field; or the equivalent knowledge and experience. Must have working knowledge of federal, state and local EHS regulations, including Cal-OSHA and EPA. Demonstrated skills working machine safety, ergonomics and building safety culture programs preferred.Experience Requirements3-5 years' experience in the safety or environmental field preferably in a manufacturing environment.Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.Demonstrated ability to determine training needs, organize and conduct training.Demonstrated skills in machine safety, ergonomics and building safety culture programsStrong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to interact with senior management and large employee groups.Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations required.Excellent communication skills in a variety of medium (PowerPoint charts, written reports & memoranda, and verbal).Desired Qualifications:OSHA 30 hr course or equivalent.CSP (Certified Safety Professional) is a plus.Stronger focus on safety than environmental.Experience with behavior-based safety programs is a plus.ContactsHas contact with all levels of company employees as well as frequent interaction with regulators and vendors (risk managers and insurance providers).Working ConditionsMany duties are performed while sitting at a desk or conference room, (e.g., operating a computer, using a telephone, or writing and analyzing data and/or reports, attending meetings). In addition, walking or standing within the manufacturing and office area is required for conducting inspections, drills, participating in agency inspections, conducting EHS audits, assisting and may serve as an emergency coordinator.
