Job DescriptionSummary: The Medical Assistant 1 ensures optimum patient care through the efficient rooming of patients, exhibiting good communication with patients and other staff, performing medical procedures, providing patient education, follow-up care instructions, and completing daily documentation. Areas of Responsibility: Patient Care:Functions independently, under supervision, in the role of Medical Assistant 1 on the teamRooms patients, obtains and documents vital signs including height, weight, BMI Temperature, respirations and blood pressureCollects and documents patient history and current state of healthPrepares treatment rooms, equipment and supplies in a timely manner to ensure optimum flowProvides patient education and follow-up care instructionsPerforms panel management and non-visit tasks as assigned by Provider or NurseWorks closely with providers to provide high quality care to each patient by addressing their health needs and concernsProvides basic Medical Assistant services to obstetric patientsCommunication:Builds relationships with patients, staff and providers to ensure excellent customer serviceCommunicates clearly with providers, other staff and patients to promote optimum clinic flowGood verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levelsCommunicates to Team Manager any urgent issues that ariseRecommends improvement in processes and practices through the proper channelsTakes accurate messages and responds in a timely mannerActs in support of the Flow Coordinator to maintain effective patient flowMedical Procedures:Follows PHC policies and procedures in accordance with the Medical Assistant positionPerforms routine screening procedures, such as hearing and vision test and document findingsPerforms various medical assistant procedures, including but not limited to: finger sticks for hemoglobin checks; ear washes; nebulizer treatments; urine dipsticks; specimen collection for throat and/or urine cultures; wound cleaning; PPD placement; INR; glucose; HCG; and Hemoglobin A1CAdministers immunizations and documents in ECW & CAIRDocumentation:Ensures that all logs, forms, records and charts are complete, thorough and accurateDocuments freezer & refrigerator temperature and takes appropriate action to maintain correct temperaturesPractices standard safety precautions to ensure safety to self, other staff and patients, including handling of contained waste and sharps, and cleaning the Ultrasound machine & EKG machineExperience and SkillsQualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:Satisfactory completion of an accredited medical assistant program in California, or documented equivalent training in a physician's office (at minimum, training must conform to the state's program of California Medical Assistant Regulations BPC 1366.1-1366.4)Entry level position up to one year of experience preferredDesired Skills:Competency in electronic medical records data entrySensitive to the needs and situations of multi-cultural populations from a variety of income levelsMeets and is capable of exceeding standards of job descriptionContributes to the improvement of the teams and organizationAn energetic and creative individual with high standards and an appropriate professional imageProven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlinesVersatility, flexibility and willingness to work within an ambiguous, fast-paced environmentDemonstrated resourcefulness in providing solutions and setting prioritiesEffective interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels within the health centerLicenses and Certifications: Completed Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited organization (Medical Assistant Program/School) is requiredState MA Certification preferred, but not required. If certified, must be current and maintain competencyInjection certifications and or competencyMust have current BLS certificationCandidate must be able to successfully meet PHC's credentialing and privileging requirementsLanguage Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish with children and adults in person, on the telephone, and in writing. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and request from patients, co-workers, and others as necessary.Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.Reasoning Ability: Ability to recognize problems, collect data and establish puter Skills: Computer literate and proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), electronic medical records and use of a web browser.
